You enter a keyword phrase and the selector will come up with a series of suggestions based on global and local searches. If your business is based only in one country you can restrict search results to that particular country. What you are looking for are results with high number of searches but will little competition. draw up a short list of phrases that interest you.

Once you have your short list, go to Google and see what web sites you will be competing against. Sometimes you may find results which have nothing to do with your type of business in which case choose another keyword. also look at some of the top sites and see what other keywords they are using in case they are useful targets for you as well.

The time you spend on keyword research is time well spent and can make a big difference in your marketing results.

The more popular the keyword the longer time it will take to reach the first page, so sometimes you are better to target a longer tailed phrase, so long as it is being searched for a reasonable number of times.
